Review of Seabiscuit (2003) by Bob V — 06 Mar 2010
The only detraction for this movie is the hero worship for FDR who extended a normal financial panic (it bottomed in July '33 four months after he took office) into a twelve-year ordeal and great depression . . . it might have been a lot worse if Michael Moore had done it, one supposes : ).
This is one of the most compelling human-interest stories you can ever hope to witness and it's 95% true (Hollywood, you know must tinker) and 100% good for the ol' heart without being overly sentimental. Owner, jockey, trainer, horse . . . all seemingly doomed until they hooked up. Stunning film!
