You've seen one horse-race film, you've seen them all (save for the genius 'Hidalgo'). This one is just longer than the rest and fairly star-studded. Jeff Bridges gives a great performance, throw in some good editing and costume design, and you have 'Seabiscuit'.
Too many over-dramatic, "epic" scenes are bad for a movie....hint, hint. Chris Cooper's character was interesting, but we don't see much of his personality outside of his horses expertice.
