Review of Seabiscuit (2003) by Jaye G — 14 Jun 2008
I'm a pushover for a well done period piece. Seabiscuit scores on all fronts, production design, set decoration, costumes, acting, screenplay. The highest praise is saved for John Schartzman's cinematography and Gary Ross' direction.
This movie is simply gorgeous to look at. Any screenshot could be framed and displayed. Gary Ross weaves the three main characters separate stories together seamlessly until the title race horse brings them all together.
The quite moments and the nailbiting scenes are handled with great skill. Great character actors filling in even the smallest roles. Seabiscuit. Who knew? Highly recommended.
