Review of Se7en (1995) by Barneyonmt — 09 Apr 2016
WHAT I LIKED: One of the most tense thrillers out there, this film has you gripped and desperate to watch the situation unfold. It's gritty, yet moving, with bags of character and emotion. Serious psychological themes are developed so well thanks to a great plot that not only serves the themes and the characters, but also itself; telling a great mystery story that has you on the edge of your seat throughout. Great direction and performances guide 'Seven' to an absolute win.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: It's not actually that memorable - it'll grip you whilst you're there, but it wont have a lasting effect on you unlike many thrillers of the time. Perhaps that's because it's still a touch 'loud 90s,' 'bash it round your face' kind of cop stuff.
VERDICT: One of the most gripping and exciting thrillers you'll watch in the moment. It's the perfect match between cop action and tense thriller.
