Review of Se7en (1995) by Niloo R — 27 Nov 2012
This is a wonderful, spine-chilling film! it's so fun to watch, especially once you've seen it once and you know what's coming - you really grow to appreciate the intricacies placed in the film that lead up to it's end.
the first time you see it you are so enraptured and haunted by the murders themselves that you're not really paying attention to anything else - and that's the device the film uses, it uses the distraction of the murders and places clues throughout the film that would tip you off to the end but go completely unnoticed and ultimately result in mind-fuckery when the end is revealed.
the most prominent example of this is brad pitt's performance throughout the film - he is SO angry in like every scene - and the first time I watched it I didn't even notice that. couple his anger, with the fact that the serial killer took photos of him and you have the end of the movie spelled out for you.
absolutely brilliant !
