Review of Se7en (1995) by Isaac H — 16 Dec 2012
Whew...what an unnervingly good film. Fincher orchestrates everything perfectly. Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman are spot on as the unlikely allies trying to unravel the mind of a meticulous serial killer, executed brilliantly by Kevin Spacey (spoiler.
) The rain, though originally unintentional, does as much to set the ominous mood as the broken shark did to make Jaws truly frightening. At its core, Seven is not about the killer himself, but about the conflicting perspectives between Somerset and Mills.
Somerset's cynicism is deeply set after exposure to such a corrossive environment, whereas Mills remains idealistic about combating the apathy so rampant in urban decay.
