Review of Se7en (1995) by Brendan S — 22 Nov 2014
Wow was this intense and shows the intelligence of David Fincher's. Unlike (my hatred for fight club is still with me) Fight Club, this shows his skill of a filmmaker. Though Andrew Walker's script is what really shines here.
The move plays like a dark and gritty cop show would. Mystery murders around the "seven deadly sins". Though as we go along; this haunting and freighting film turns out to be a psychological thriller between the killer and the two detectives (played by Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt).
The ending is what really is messed up and great. I'm not going to ruin it but **Kevin Spacey** is fantastic as the villain. Scenes of him and Pitt are fantastic. Critic "Jami Bernard" should never be taken seriously with this line "and certainly none of the psychology".
What movie was this guy watching? If you watch the ending to this movie; you can't tell me that it doesn't have psychology themes, theories, ideas, etc. Fincher doesn't hold up on the ending.
As he's well known for endings that you'll love to kind of hate, but still love...if that makes sense. This ending is no exception. Overall this is his best work. Gone Girl was great but this was fantastic and maybe one of the best movies of all time.
9.7.
