"WHO'S THE DADDY?".

Ray Winstone's debut, set in an English borstal, is a true classic and defines the terms 'gritty, brutal and realistic'. Made originally for tv by the BBC (back when they had the balls to make decent films, and not run by wishy-washy,Politically Correct, left wing biased liberals as they are now!) and remade for a Theatrical release, this caused a furore when originally shown on TV, and was subsequently banned for a fair few years - although 'pirate' copies were always available! Showing an uncompromising view of a young offenders institute, it does little to act as a deterrent for any 'would-be' criminals nowadays, who are more likely to get a slap on the wrists and a free holiday on tax-payers money, it would make you think twice about doing a spot of gardening whilst incarcerated (along the same lines as taking a shower in American History X!).

Although the film is filled with swearing, violence and racist language, it does also have valid arguments for and against the prison system and whether rehabilitation works - mostly demonstrated by the character Archer, who sees the hopelessness in all those around him, inmates and guards alike.

Ray Winstone steals every scene he is in, and immortalised the phrase "Who's the Daddy" so deserves God-like status just for that!!!
