Review of Scum (2014) by Chris M — 08 Jan 2010
Scum is a film of brutality in a British Borstal, for young offenders. I can describe this film in 3 words, raw, violent and schocking.
The cast includes Ray Winstone and Phil Daniels. They both have great in this film.
This film was shocking to me as well as other people. Some of these scenes include a riot protesting against the guards and billiard balls which are put in as sock, then hit round someones face and a graphic scene of suicide. Horrible stuff.
I am giving this film 5 stars becuae it is a much watch, even for those who don't know what a Borstal is.
This film has an infamous scene where Winstones character (Carlin) goes and has a fight with the 'top dog' of B block (Carlin is A block). He walks in, batters him with a lead pipe, and shouts I'm the Daddy! This is one of the best parts and quotes of the film.
To sum up my review, great performances by Winstone and Daniels. Infamous scenes include I'm the Daddy and billiard balls in sock. A must watch for people who don't know what a Borstal is and the aspects of a Borstal system. 5/5.
