Review of Scum (2009) by Marcel S — 09 Sep 2010
A powerful, stark and unflinching film about the mistreatment of juvenile delinquents. There are in fact two versions of this movie. First came the original made for TV production, which has an additional bold homosexual subplot that changes the main protagonist significantly.
The film was banned and the filmmakers later remade it for a theatrical release with many of the same actors and sets. The theatrical version is longer, more cinematic and arguably more brutal. Either way, the story is gripping, heart-breaking and honest.
