Review of Scrooged (1988) by David S — 24 Dec 2009
There is something about movies made in the 80's that is as distinctive as movies made in any decade whether it's the 1930's or the 60's or the 70's. And so, with that in mind, I proclaim the virtues of "Scrooged". It is a distinctive 80's film so with the passing of 22 years since it opened there is a nostalgic element that plays to me and I enjoy that.
Arguably this was Bill Murray at the top of his comedy game, where his character can run the range of Murray's best comedic chops through the whole film. From a fully realized egomaniacal jerk to a frightened, defenseless soul godsmacked by the spirit of Christmas to a humbled, effective human seeking redemption.
It's very funny.
