Review of Scrooge (1970) by Travis H — 09 Dec 2004
It's somewhat exciting to see A Christmas Carol as a musical, but it's also disappointing with songs like these. They all seem to be a poor man's version of songs from Oliver!. Still though, the film is a pretty good time, as it is with any A Christmas Carol. Albert Finney does a pretty nice job as Mr. Scrooge, though at times I felt like he was doing a parody of himself, or the character, or something. Some of the best moments in the film are spread through the visits of the three ghosts, especially the Ghost of Christmas Present. Kenneth More fits the character perfectly and leads Scrooge around jollily while drinking wine. It's full of flaws and some poor songs and singing, but it's still a fun time for a Christmas film.
