Review of Scrooge (1970) by Kendra J — 20 Dec 2009
This always has been, and probably always will be my number one Christmas movie. This was the movie that we had to watch at some time during the Christmas season when I was a kid, and it's a classic to my family.
Starring the wonderful Albert Finny, this musical never fails to get me in the Christmas spirit, although I admit that my opinion is probably colored significantly by my childhood. The songs are well-crafted and catchy, and the acting is as strong as in any non-musical adaptation. Albert Finny is particularly brilliant as both the aged and the younger versions of Scrooge, and David Collings remains my favorite Bob Cratchitt of all time.
One probably has to have a taste for musicals to thoroughly enjoy this adaptation, but I think it's a very well done film and one that everyone should enjoy at Christmas-time.
