Review of Scrooge (1970) by Sums I — 02 Jan 2012
Not sure why so many people enjoy this film... I find the musical elements completely ruin the mood of the story. It's out of character with Ebenezer to break into song, and the hit "Thank You Very Much" seemed rather mundane and repetitive to me.
Disclaimer: I saw this version for the first time in 2011, so naturally times have changed quite a bit and I have no nostalgia rescuing this piece of work from middle-of-the-road. Credit is due for great acting, but Scrooge's conversion is over-the-top and eye-rolling at the end.
Give me the 1984 George C. Scott version!
