Review of Screamers: The Hunting (2009) by Kim - — 31 Jan 2009
In this sequel set 13 years after the first movie, the daughter of the survivor of the first movie goes with a team of soldiers to respond to an SOS signal coming from the same planet from the first movie. When they get there though, they realize it was a trap set by the Screamers.
When I first heard about this movie, and saw the trailer, I was a bit worried. I was worried about things such as being more of a stand alone movie that doesn't require viewing of the first movie, and that it wouldn't have the same feel to it, but its VERY dependent on the first movie - like it references events and people from that movie constantly, the main chick character is the daughter of the main dude from that movie - and if you never saw the first movie, you'd be pretty much lost in this one, and the tone and style is almost exactly like the first movie.
There are some continuity errors, such as no two moons in the sky, and they don't have to smoke those things to counter-act the radiation, and the basic Screamers look larger and slightly different, but none of that stuff really brings the movie down for me.
As a huge fan of the original movie, I found that this one more then met expectations I had toward it and is no better, but no worse, then the first movie, as I liked it about the same.
