Review of Scream 4 (2011) by Daniel K — 12 Jul 2012
1: I never should have watched this. Despite coming in with pretty low expectations, it managed to disappoint. Just like the other three films, it wants to be clever and cutting-edge, but instead it feels tired and incredibly redundant.
It just does the same thing over and over again with virtually no originality, just as in the opening sequence. There is some entertainment value inherent in the "mystery" surrounding who the killer is, but this is simply because one can't help but wonder, not due to any skill or effort of the film's creators.
I couldn't help but root for the killer by the end, simply because I wanted Neve Campbell's character to finally die, thereby hopefully ending the franchise. That would have been satisfying, but alas it was not to be.
