Review of Scream 3 (2000) by Stephen S — 31 Jul 2011
Surprisingly good and much better than I remembered it. Though they're part of a slasher series, I've always considered the Scream films to be high-end horror, if there truly is such a thing. Yeah, they're violent, but they're also pretty suspenseful and generally have pretty cool stories and twists.
I love the part in this one where the murderer is killing people off in the order they die in the script, but nobody knows who's next because there's three different script versions--that's just a great plot point right there.
Is this series ridiculous and cliche'd? Absolutely, but it's deliberate. It keeps the viewer entertained and in suspense, while simultaneously not taking itself seriously, and also making fun of other horror films (including the other Scream films at times).
