Review of Scream 2 (1997) by Kyler D — 22 Jun 2011
Good: Entertaining, funny, gory, mysterious, great opening scene.
Bad: Plot not as exciting the second time through.
Sidney is once again haunted again by the serial killer, but this time it is thought to be a copycat killer, repeating what the last killer did to her. But who would do this? Although this movie is not as good as the original Scream, it is still an enjoyable movie to watch. This movie doesn't have any memorable quotes to it as the last did. But it does have a great opening scene with one of the best deaths in the whole movie. Even the plot line is not as exciting as the first, just because they tried to make the plot differ from the first a little, but the idea is overall the same thing, with minor details changed. There are times where you are positive something is about to happen, but then it does not, making the scenes much more enticing. I can easily imagine Scream 3 drying up the plot to it's full extent. The beginning of the film was hilarious, much like the first. It gave new rules of teen slasher movies, and made fun of itself very much. But in the latter half of the movie the humor lessened and the horror was raised. It seemed as though they attempted to make this one more horrific than the first. Although not scarier, and it may have much more gore and violence (which was one of the new rules), I did not find it more scary. As in the first, the ending is surprising, one that no one could predict, keeping the mystery element of the movie. Overall a good job on the sequel, it did not surpass the original, but it was still a good time.
