Review of Scream 2 (1997) by Nathan G — 03 Nov 2012
Ambitious. It seems that the 90's was obsessed with meta-fiction. Unfortunately, they play this up too much in Scream, and in the sequel they add another layer (parodying themselves), such that it almost becomes a gimmick.
There are scary and funny elements to this story, but it requires a finer hand to weave the two. As a result, this movie doesn't seem like it's transcending a genre; it seems like it's in search of one.
