Review of Scream 2 (1997) by Scott S — 12 Jan 2013
Scream 2 (1997) -- [6.5] -- SPOILER REVIEW: More of the same is enough to earn a passing grade in the case of "Scream 2." Courtney Cox and David Arquette get more screen time to develop an odd but affecting romantic relationship (their real life romance *must* have had something to do with it).
My favorite surviving cast member, Jamie Kennedy, gets the movie's most shocking death scene. Kudos to Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson for offing a main character in broad daylight in the middle of a crowded public place.
The movie works fairly well while its hopping through various sequences of tension and suspense, but the climactic reveal and ensuing explanation are a chore for me to digest. Beautiful (and thus welcome) additions to the cast include Sarah Michelle Gellar, Timothy Olyphant, and Jerry O'Connell.
