Review of Scream 2 (1997) by Phoenix_Prjct — 13 Jan 2023
Final Thoughts:
Scream 2 stands in the shadow of its classic predecessor. While a similar wit mocks its counterparts within the genre, for the most part, it avoids those pitfalls with some smart if uneven plotting. It attempts to recreate and change the beats that made the original so unpredictable, only to telegraph itself so vividly. .
It doesn’t help that new characters, despite well-known actors, pale quite drastically to the returning Sidney (Neve Campbell), Gale (Courtney Cox), and Dewey (David Arquette), all of whom have a history lending their arcs an eclipsing weight. .
Unevenness aside, Scream 2 is a quality slasher with smart scripting and just enough blood and guts to get the viewer’s heart racing.
