Review of Scream 2 (1997) by Clay W — 10 Jun 2012

Scream 2 is very fun sequel to the amazing Scream that is just a great thrill ride. Scream 2 takes place a couple of years after the killings in Woodsboro and two of the survivors, Sidney and Randy, are trying to live a normal life by going to college.

When two students go to a sneak preview of the movie "Stab" (based of a book that was written about the killings in Woodsboro that was written by Gale Weathers) they get more than came for and end getting brutally murdered.

What is thought to be just another random killing soon becomes connected to Sidney because a new Ghostface is out to kill her and anyone who get's in their way. The first Scream movie is a classic to me because it was clever, funny, thrilling, and a great mystery.

I really liked how the movie made fun of horror flicks and even made fun of it's self and it's just a blast to watch. Now most the time sequels to horror movies or any movies in general suck or are just not as good as the first (with some exceptions, well actually there are a lot that are better) and making a sequel to the successful Scream could end up being great or a total disaster.

Well it wasn't a disaster at all and turned out to be a fun ride just like the first Scream. It's not as good as the first but it's still very enjoyable. The story is very simple like the first the first movie with some good side stories that are enjoyable to watch.

One thing that makes this movie great is that like the first movie it knows what it's doing and makes fun of it being a sequel. It goes over all the rules to make a successful horror sequel and it does all that.

Also like the first movie there is still a very good mystery even though this time around it was easier to guess the killer. Even though the the killer was easier to figure out the reveal of why they were doing it was still very clever.

In this movie you can also expect some very entertaining kills, thrilling moments, and some funny dialogue. In Scream 2 some cast members from the first movie return along with new members. Neve Campbell returns as Sidney Prescott and she is just as good as she was in the first movie.

She plays her character so well and really becomes Sidney. David Arquette and Courtney Cox return and are great just like the first movie and their chemistry together is just so fun to watch. Jamie Kennedy returns to and is still probably one of my favorite characters in the franchise and he has his moments in this movie.

Their are also great performances by Elise Neal, Jerry O'Connell, Timothy Olyphant, and Laurie Metcalf. Overall Scream 2 is a very fun sequel but not as good as the first.
