Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse is a vulgar, violent, and amusing zombie comedy that features a great idea, but falls well short of greatness and doesn't even come close to the amazing, Zombieland, which it clearly idolizes.

The concept is rife with possibilities: three scouts are thrust into a zombie outbreak and need to use their training and survival skills to save their town; however they unfortunately bring a fourth-party, girl along for the ride and her awfulness brought the movie down in a big way.

The acting is serviceable from everyone involved, with the up-and-coming, Tye Sheridan being the one I cared about most, and his foul-mouthed buddy was entertaining, but Sarah Dumont, who plays Denise is so grating, her character's role is literally to state the obvious and tell them to hurry the **** up with whatever they're doing.

The one who actually stole the show was Joey Morgan as Augie, who's infectious innocence and hilarious, dweeb persona actually felt fresh and he had me laughing consistently. The kills are actually very well-executed and I found myself reacting to some of the very creative violence with a huge smile on my face with the highlight being a kill involving a broken bottle! The movie is extremely crude and at times feels like they borrowed the script from, Superbad, with how frequent the characters discuss everything sex-related and it's not exactly reaching for the stars with its dialogue.

There is also a hilarious moment involving a trampoline, a window, and a character clinging to a zombie's penis for dear life...yep, you read that right! All in all, it's not the best zombie comedy out there, and at times it's incredibly stupid with many inconsistencies in how the zombies behave (some act as they did before i.

E. a zombie stripper, and others are ravenous monsters), but it succeeds largely thanks to the young actors, some gnarly violence, and a handful of truly funny gags.
