Review of Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (2015) by Chris D — 10 Nov 2015
A combination of Superbad and Zombieland, a film boasting bloodbaths and babes, and your average gore-filled zombie flick. This movie definitely had potential, and I would be lying if I said that it wasn't brilliant in the laughs and shock department.
Yet, it consistently dwells on minuscule character drama instead of focusing on broadening the plot or adding more comedy and/or gore. The trailer and movie poster look stunningly innovative, making it out to be a new take on zombie flicks, but it can't seem muster much originality aside from being the first film to put boy scouts in a zombie-apocalypse scenario.
The three main boy scout characters have relationship drama, which is tirelessly addressed throughout the film, and all three of them are pretty unlikeable. In the end, it's a solid popcorn flick, but Scout's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse isn't anything new or innovative.
