Review of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010) by Justin R — 23 Apr 2013
This movie starts bizarre and somehow defines new grounds for weird as it progresses. It's cast really well and the only reason I didn't like it is simply the strangeness and plot choices. It just has too many weird things going on and only some of them worked for me, like Chris Evans, and the fight scene with Brandon Routh.
Some of the exaggeration is funny but most of it brings on a feeling of what is going on. Aside from a couple places where I laughed really hard, like the Evans stuff and when Knives comes to Scott's apartment, I continually was just trying to find something real amidst the effects and video game references, which were actually pretty cool at times.
There is something very real about a guy fighting for his love and not giving up, but morality seems a bit shoddy in this weird film so I don't know how much that holds up. Honestly if you enjoy craziness, then sit back and go with it, because it's not terrible.
