Review of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010) by Tyler R — 11 Sep 2013

Let's be honest, our favorite movies are the ones that make us happy, indirectly, by making us laugh from start to finish. For this reason, my personal favorite movie of all time is Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. It can keep even the biggest great-movie-hater interested and laughing. It's a very good movie for maybe not the largest variety of people, but a great movie nonetheless.

One of the reasons I find this movie as good as I do, is the factor of "Re-watchability". Great comical films have various kinds of humor, some with very obvious jokes and parts clearly put in to make you laugh, and then other jokes that are subtle and unaddressed. Scott Pilgrim is loaded with both. I have watched this film over 20 times and still find a new joke or reference every time.

My favorite references, are the ones it makes towards itself. We all love references to things we like, it feels like we're in on something and like we're special, somehow it's more funny if we're the only ones who get the joke. This movie was based on 7 comic books and a video game, and isn't shy about letting you know. It's hard not to laugh when a defeated character bursts into coins.

Part of staying interested in a story, is waiting to see what comes next. Now this is one movie, where that is definitely not a problem. In the storyline, and just the actions of the characters, this is about as random as it gets, but not in a way that makes it hard to follow the movie. Even when you're not expecting it, Bam, humor, thrown in your face.

Any movie that's enjoyable is worth watching. A movie that has you laughing from start to finish, is worth re-watching. Most movies worth re-watching are worth sharing. That's why I've chosen to share my favorite movie with you. I encourage anyone and everyone to watch this beautiful 112 minute creation.
