Review of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010) by Oliver S — 04 Oct 2014
I really wanted to love this movie, and for the most part I did, but despite the incredible color palate and the excellent alt-indie-rock/retro video game references, I found myself turned off/unmoved by the plot's romantic epicenter.
The fact that this movie is so fast-paced makes its run time feel even longer than the already ambitious hour and 53 minutes, especially when its romantic storyline is so juvenile and somewhat tough to stomach in the first place.
The battle sequences, however, are fantastic and so awesomely colorful--between this, "The World's End", and "Hot Fuzz", it's evident that Edgar Wright has some serious talent as an action director.
It's definitely a film with a lasting impression and well worth watching--I definitely won't be forgetting about it anytime soon.
