Scott Pilgrim is pure fanservice for millenial nerds who grew up with video games during the 90s. It's a brilliant film that deceptively paints itself as a low budget by-the-numbers Michael Cera comedy with a slightly stylized nerdy edge, only to suddenly go full video game and break all rules, conventions, and physics in possibly the most spectacular plot twist of any comedy film to date.

The unsuspecting buildup to this moment was masterfully handled, and from this point onward the movie only continues to elevate itself even further with stellar video game-inspired set pieces that all come together flawlessly with excellent action choreography.

There's a few jokes here and there that don't quite land, and Scott's main love interest, Ramona Flowers, isn't as well-developed as she should be, but these gripes are too minor for me to care in what is otherwise a creative masterpiece.

This is art house filmmaking done right. Scott Pilgrim effortlessly blends video games with the real world in a uniquely stylized mix that by all reason and logic should not work, yet nonetheless does.
