Review of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010) by Baurushan J — 22 May 2013
The story is about Scott Pilgrim played by Michael Cera, a slacker and part-time musician who lives in Toronto, Canada along with his friends and forms the band Sex Bob-omb. Whilst dating a girl named Knives Chau, he falls in love with a girl named Ramona Flowers played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead and wants to know as much details about her.
But one thing he doesn't know is that Ramona has dated seven other exes in the past before meeting Scott and this outrages him. Coming to the final conclusion, in order to win Ramona back, he has to defeat each ex with his own special talent one by one throughout the film until he gets to the final boss Gideon played by Jason Schwartzman.
This film deserves all the credit it needs. Shot in a video-game meets comic-book style, it is bright, flashy and lively like it should be and I forgot to mention that this film is based off a six-issue graphic novel.
The intro is speedy and gets you hyped for the film which is a good sign and the visual effects are unbelievable. The casting, make-up, sets and costume design are all spot on and realistic. I can't spot any flaws anywhere.
Edgar Wright's direction was perfect. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World gets a decent 10/10.
