Review of Scotland, PA (2001) by Thomas S — 05 Dec 2007
Scotland, PA is a 1970s version of Macbeth. Instead of plotting to kill the king and take over Scotland, the Macbeths plot to kill their boss and take over his fast food joint. As we all know, things do not work out well. Amidst bad clothes, bad beer, and Bad Company songs, the Macbeths are consumed by their own guilt.
James LeGros plays Macbeth, and does a good job, but ultimately he's overshadowed by Maura Tierney as Lady Macbeth. Christopher Waulken plays the vegetarian, self-help tape-listening Macduff, and he's--well, he's Christopher Waulken, which is rarely a bad thing. Everyone else does a good job, and the very concept of Andy Dick as one of the trippy hippie Weird Sisters is just great.
This is good stuff, written (with a little help from The Bard) and directed by Billy Morrissette, best known as "that dude from Pump Up the Volume.".
