Review of Scoop (2006) by Alex S — 05 Oct 2008
Even with his faults there aren't many others that can replace Woody Allen, he's neurotic but he can be damn funny at times and luckily you have that in this film. Forget Scoop this is Woody and Scarlet having a laugh and if you don't mind that (like I didn't) then you won't mind this, the plot is nothing special but it has got a slice of quirkiness to it which was refreshing, Hugh is a piece of wood here but not more has been asked from him.
There are a few decent jokes in here but ultimately it's forgettable really, not worth a second viewing. The bad points about Woody, the subject matter is always concerning relationships and something a tad Jewish, and even though there's nothing bad in that it sadly leaves a large part of the world out, unless your world are those two subjects in which case you're Woody Allen.
And of course his rants rarely lead to anything constructive, just clever role reversal and fancy word interplay. Nevertheless, he's still petty unique, which can be taken as a criticism for the rest of the field of comedy actors.
