Review of Scoop (2006) by Ecnered R — 18 Oct 2010
While I'm not a huge resource of knowledge on the films of Woody Allen, I found Scoop to be the most entertaining movie of his that I have seen. I went into this film with little anticipation other than my adoration of Scarlett Johansson & the knowledge that Hugh Jackman is a fine actor.
What I got was one of the quirkiest, most clever & laugh out loud funny movies I've seen in a while. This comedy-mystery is very funny & even suspenseful. Woody Allen was quite funny in his role, as was Scarlett Johansson.
I loved the way that this little gem played out, with just enough red herrings & misdirection to keep you guessing. Instantly re watchable & loads of fun! The interludes with Death transporting the deceased across the River Styx were strange & hilarious.
Hugh Jackman's charming acting was wonderful as well. Look for a cameo from Anthony Stewart Head at the end! Highly recommended for a fun & entertaining time!
