Review of Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins (2009) by Dan W — 10 Nov 2009
A made for t.v. movie about the beginnings of Mystery Inc. It takes you back to the day Norville Rogers meets Scoobert Doo, and how along with Velma Dinkley, Daphne Blake, and Fred Jones become the Breakfast Club... Only you know, not.
Personally, I thought it was going to be garbage (Much along the line of the two theatrical releases), but this prequel proved rather good. The cast was much better in here as compared to the theatrical movie... Even so far as to say there was more chemistry (Odd seeing that Daphne and Fred were married). There is no denying that Freddy Prinze Jr. looked the part, but in Mystery Begins the acting was just... so much more Scooby Doo, and it played out just like you remember watching the old Hannah Barbarra cartoon yesterday.
In my honest opinion, I would have paid to see this one in theaters. Also noteworthy, Megatron returns for the voice of Scooby... OH and you totally get to see the mystery machine for the first time. It might just be the kid in me, but this was worth the effort.
I heard rumor that a live action show was being prepped, and this was meant to be a pilot of sorts... If that is the case, count me in. I'd watch every single episode without fail!
