Review of Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004) by Jacob B — 04 Sep 2017
At first, you think this film has a chance at being good when you learn that James Gunn of Guardians of the Galaxy fame wrote the script. Then, all that hope comes crushing down when you learn that Raja Gosnell, a guy who'll ruin your childhood cartoons if he's offered a large enough paycheck from any movie studio, is the director meaning that he had his henchman cock a gun against.
..er...Gunn's head if he dared try to have the screenplay be a masterpiece. It'll keep children distracted for 90 minutes and the jokes try hard to be funny and some of them work. It also boasts some faithfulness to its source material but Scooby-Doo 2 is awful.
It mostly makes children dumber as opposed as to how the cartoons help make kids smarter, some of the special effects feel artificial and it's VERY childish. The titular character is suddenly an idiot in this movie.
Maybe his behaviour was always like that, I don't know, I haven't seen any of the cartoons in a while. But, here it's cringy. Do you want to help teach your kids about deductive reasoning and problem solving? Do you want them to laugh at the same time by having a talking dog because they've been all the rage for decades? And hijinks? THEN GO WATCH THE CARTOONS!!!! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING TRYING TO MAKE THEM STUPID??!! Yeah, it's awful.
I blame my age. And not simply to join the cool kids by hating on Gosnell, it feels cringy.
