Review of School for Scoundrels (2006) by Heather C — 21 Apr 2008
Aaron and I watched School for Scoundrels on DVD a couple of weeks ago. While I am not a fan of Billy Bob Thornton personally, everything I see him act in, I love...including his characters. This movie was no exception.
According to IMDb, the movie is about: "A young guy short on luck, enrolls in a class to build confidence to help win over the girl of his dreams, which becomes complicated when his teacher has the same agenda.".
Billy Bob Thornton plays the teacher and Jon Heder (of "Napoleon Dynamite" fame) plays the guy short on luck. Since I haven't seen "Napoleon Dynamite", I wasn't too concerned to see Jon Heder take on another role, though I was a bit concerned that I would keep trying to put him in the Napoleon Dynamite role that I've become familiar with through pop culture. I needn't have worried. He held his own in this role and I even ended up liking his character...which is a huge feat in itself, since I am dead set against seeing Napoleon Dynamite because of the character he plays.
This movie boasts many new comedy bits that had both Aaron and I giggling. Some of the plot ideas were truly inspired and I found myself really looking forward to what would happen next. There were twists that were unexpected, but absolutely delighted me.
This is definitely a movie that should make it into your Netflix queue. You won't regret it.
