Review of Schindler's List (1993) by Jonathan E — 15 Aug 2013
I would say I love Schindler's List but in all honesty I don't. I respect its message but the films use of black and white in my opinion detracts from the horror of the momments and the Hollywood/ Spielberg touch seems to handle one of the darkest moments of human depravity too softly, focusing more on the hero in Schindler than the gruesome scenes which should have been used to shock the audience.
However the film does have a suitably sombre aura which helps the great (for the most part) acting to stand out. It's just too much like an American sitting at his desk in Hollywood trying to tell a sad story to an audience who don't want to know every detail and that is what stops it from being a classic, again in my opinion.
Finally I would add that the cast should have had actual Germans in it as Liam Neeson's Irish accent ruins any hope of immersion.
