Review of Schindler's List (1993) by Landon T — 12 Nov 2012
I really enjoyed this movie, and was looking forward to watching it since I didn't know much about the Holocaust. The movie's main character was Oskar Schindler, which was a German man. He was wealthy and wanted to have more money by employing as many Jews as he could at a factory.
The Jews would work for cheap opposed to other people. He was a very friendly man and it showed that throughout the movie. Even at the beginning he pays for other peoples drinks and food at a casual nightclub.
World War II progresses and the tragic event called the Holocaust took place. Although Oskar was money hungry and seeking to get wealthier, he became sympathetic for the Jews in danger. He ends up saving a little over 1,000 Jews from suffering in the gas chambers and set his factory up as a refuge site.
Even though Oskar wasn't Jewish, he still experienced first hand how horrid the Holocaust was. I always knew the Holocaust was a bad event, but this movie made me realize how truly rough it was. So many people were innocently killed and hurt for no reason.
It was estimated that 12,000,000 people were killed. That is more than the population of North Carolina according to the 2011 census. Hitler targeted various types of people including homosexuals, blacks, and people he just did not like.
It is amazing to me that something so terrible could take place. I respect Oskar because of how caring and helpful he was in saving the lives of so many people. It takes a lot for someone to be so courageous in a time of need.
The movie was overall entertaining the entire time and very informative. It portrayed the terrible time well and the movie was easily understood. Everyone should be somewhat educated on the importance of the event that took place.
I may show this to my family and watch it again.
