Review of Schindler's List (1993) by Dom W — 13 Apr 2013
Schindler's List is actually one of my all-time favorite movies when it comes to something relating to an actual event that took place in history. I watched this movie when I was a child and have seen it more than a few times since then.
The Holocaust is one of those topics that can be talk about for days in and out, as to the point where some people actually believe that it did not even happen which is somewhat ridiculous in my opinion, but to each its own I guess.
Schindler is a local businessman who has a sole purpose of earning money and that is basically it. He is a member of Hitler's Nazi party and ends up opening a factory that makes weapons for the German army during World War II, and being that wars are very expensive; it was not a bad idea in a way to earn money especially if that is just your "sole" purpose.
He basically ends up having a change of heart which is very heartwarming, and creates the factory to be a safe haven for the Jews. He even goes as far to bribe Nazi's and high ranking Nazi officials so that he could save the lives of Jews throughout the war.
I think that him realizing what he was doing (playing a part in genocide) and him having a change of heart is not only remarkable, but is something out of a fairytale movie. This movie is amazing, and what makes it even more amazing is that it actually happened in real life.
Obviously religion had a major part in what was taking place in this was and strong belief systems were incorporated on all sides of the table. The Nazis had their own belief system which was opposed to not only Jews, but other religions and races as well.
This was a great movie and I am sure that teachers all over the world still show this to their students.
