Review of Scent of a Woman (1992) by Alex H — 30 Jan 2013
Watching the first fifteen minutes of the film made me feel like i've seen the whole thing before, well i've really seen the whole plot before. i, of course, never give up on a movie once I start it, , but seeing that the film was 2 hours and 37 minutes long, I didn't think it would please me that much.
It's not until I came to Al Pacino (i'm sure everyone else would agree) when I started to become interested. His character is one of my favorite characters ever, giving us easily his best performance yet (yes, that's right, even better than Micheal Corleone from the Godfather).
Al Pacino's very presence in the film makes Charlie's simple conflicts look very dramatic indeed, and adding great amounts of tension to Frank's attempted suicide. Easily my favorite scene in the film is when Charlie takes Frank out for a ride in a Cherry Red Ferrari ("Whoo-ah") and allows Frank to "drive it".
it was just so fun watching Charlie and Frank interact with each other, that I didn't want it to end, I didn't want to go back to Charlie's problems at his school, but we had to of course.
and of course the only thing that got me through it was Al Pacino, still being hilarious in a situation when he shouldn't be. i'm not sure I would've liked it much if Al Pacino hadn't been in it.
The character would've still interested me, but not as much as it had with Al in the role.
