Review of Scary Movie 5 (2013) by Brandy H — 01 Oct 2013

The Scary Movie franchise has spawned some stinkers in recent years so for this to be the weakest of the lot is quite an accomplishment. Devoid of laughs, this does the thing that most spoofs seem to fall back on these days which is to simply reenact bits of four or five films from the past few years but forgetting to do it in a way that is even remotely funny.

It's all very lazy, in fact the film itself is shy of 70 minutes! There are about 10 minutes of inane outtakes and deleted scenes which pad it out the rest of the run time. This is a cynical piece of cinema and the only thing that upsets me more than the fact that by renting this I have just potentially helped to encourage them to make another film is that this was penned by David Zucker and Pat Proft! How exactly do you go from The Naked Gun and Hot Shots to this? In truth they have been involved since Scary Movie 3 so I shouldn't be surprised.

That doesn't make me any less disappointed in them.
