Review of Scarlet Street (1945) by Aj V — 06 Aug 2010
"I'd rather a judge give me the works than to have to do it to myself." Edward G. Robinson is a sap under the grips of a mid-life crisis. Can't hardly blame him once you witness his wife belittle his every word.
..still, it's hard to see him fall under the witchful gaze of the vicious but equally pathetic Joan Bennett. Her conniving beau Dan Duryea is a dirty bow-tied punk--GAR!!! Everyone is so bloody unlikable, and the great performances really make the first 2/3rds rather painful.
That last third though...fantastic. Not really a spoiler for the genre, but everybody gets whats comin' to them. VF.
