Ultra-violent crime drama is still reverent today. Cuban refuge sees opportunity to rise in mafia and takes it. But his excess in cocaine may be his downfall. Classic gangster saga remake of the 1932 film version is given more relevant upgrades and more compelling results. Al Pacino is almost unrecognizable in Oliver Stone's strikingly profound screenplay. Glaring and extreme violence may be a turn off for some viewers, but it's an intelligent, and powerful gangster film nonetheless.
