Review of Scarface (1983) by Keenan S — 12 Oct 2012
While the 1932 original is excellent, this is one of those rare times when I think a remake is better than the original. This film is a dark representation of the American dream and achieving power after coming from nothing.
This film isn't pleasant to watch, and can brutal at times, though it is compelling for its unflinching portrayal of drug cartels. It's also a story of a man who is slowly turned into a soulless monster and killing machine who destroys himself.
Scarface is a very compelling and superbly performed film that hits hard and never pulls back. I honestly think this is a better crime film than The Godfather, to tell you the truth.
