Review of Scarface (1983) by Shane D — 05 Oct 2012
I get why this film is so iconic. It certainly is one of Pacino's finest, most aggressive moments on film. But perhaps it's just a little too unsavory for my tastes. Whereas other gangster films tend to have a softness, whether it be loyalty, family or love; Scarface has none of the above.
It's just kind of brutal and sleazy. I guess that's its appeal but after 2 hours I was struggling to care about any of the characters. De Palma's work is commendable though, score, scenery, everything is really well done.
It's just not my cup of tea...
