Review of Scanners (1981) by Brian M — 19 Oct 2007
It's pretty much the strangest and most sporadically violent movie I've seen in a while. The opening head-explodey sets up the tone for the rest of the movie. The script is well written and Cronenberg does pretty well with his own source material, keeping everything captivating and shocking.
Stephen Lack though, is maybe the worst leading man ever. Ever. He recites all his lines as if he was reading off of cue cards. This is evened out by the creepiness that is Michael Ironside. All in all, a pretty good sci-fi flick with some good special effects.
It's worth it alone just to watch the head-explodey.
