Review of Scanners (1981) by Elisabeth T — 19 Mar 2008
Kudos to Cronenberg for making such an intense, riveting, inventively gory film with such a low budget. The music's kind of cheesy, acting's a bit off, and the characters are a little underdeveloped, but the sound effects are creepily effective, and Cronenberg proves what a masterful director he is: even though it's a little cheesy and over-the-top, it could've been a lot more so in less capable hands.
Some nice little plot twists, too.
