The exploding head scene is what most people remember from this movie. It's a good sci-film with some creepy moments, a sound basic premise and a typically intense performance from a young Michael Ironside as the villain Revok.
Unfortunately, Scanners' impact is hampered by a bland performance by protagonist Stephen Lack. The ideas of this film are excellent but the translation is uneven.
