Review of Scanners (1981) by Sgt. C — 18 Oct 2014
(53%) David Cronenberg's much admired and quite widely known entry is largely hype as far as I'm concerned as it's mostly an over-rated sci-fi horror flick that really does meander itself along after the first 20 or so minutes with its somewhat dull characters and quite thinly layered one-note plot.
It's mostly remembered these days for the admittedly very well done, and quite shocking exploding head scene mainly because not a lot else happens of any real interest for the remainder of the run time.
It is though not a terribly made movie, and still worth a watch for horror fans, but, for my money, it's only a minor classic.
