Review of Say Anything... (1989) by Joshua F — 18 Apr 2009
To know Lloyd Dobler is to love him.
Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" blast's out of the speaker of the radio that Lloyd Dobler holds over his head, standing outside Diane Court's window. This has to be one of the most wellknown scenes ever.
The film is about noble Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack) who want's nothing more than to go ut with the brilliant genious known as Diane Court(Ione Skye).
Llouyd tries to win Dianes heart under the watchful eyes of her over-protectibe father and their stunned and judgmental classmates. Before Diane leaves on a scholarship to England.
One of the cutest movies ever. Very simple storyline and you follow it easily. You can really connect with the characters. It really concentrates on the relationships between Diane and her father and the one between her and Lloyd. So it really is like two story's that twines together from time to time.
It's a touching and simple movie that is fun to watch. It charms anyone who is a hopeless romantic and loves theese kind of movies.
John Cusack, one of my personal favorite actors, is absolutley brilliant as the cute Lloyd Dobler. They couldn't have found anyone better to play him really. The character Lloyd is just so damn loveable...you just cannot help but adore him.
The other actors are good too...but Cusack's performance really shines.
And now one of my favorite lines in the whole film...
Mike Cameron: I don't know you very well, you know, but I wanted to ask you - how'd you get Diane Court to go out with you?
Lloyd Dobler: I called her up.
Mike Cameron: But how come it worked? I mean, like, what are you?
Lloyd Dobler: I'm Lloyd Dobler.
Mike Cameron: This is great. This gives me hope. Thanks.
