In the 21 years since its release, this has become something of a teen romcom '80s classic. It's difficult to see why though, as it's not only low on drama and story, but the focus of the story is better when focused on the father-daughter relationship, rather than the potential lovebirds.
The supposedly iconic ghetto blaster moment doesn't have anywhere near the impact its legend suggests (now more stalkerish than romantic), and all of the supporting characters are simply abandoned once the climax approaches.
That said, it's nicely played, doesn't feel too dated (technology and hair aside) and has some nicely observed moments and lines.
